Powerful earthquakes hit Venezuela

On June 24, 2026, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Venezuela, followed by a second quake at 7.5-magnitude less than a minute later. As of June 30, according to local authorities, at least 1,700 confirmed people have died and over 5,000 people are injured.

Right now, Doctors Without Borders teams are in the capital city of Caracas assessing the situation to determine how we can best support affected communities.

In Caracas, a city home to 2.2 million people, we are adapting our activities to meet immediate medical needs and are preparing the delivery of emergency trauma kits to hospitals.

When disasters strike, Doctors Without Borders strives to provide critical care in areas where people’s needs are greatest. We rely on a community of supporters in Canada to keep providing essential care around the world.
